What's up with the map pool? The 4 player maps are better than few a few of those (I'm looking at you, desert oasis).

Don't be so quick to dismiss a map just because it doesn't have 2 starting locations.

1. Register for the site
2. Set password
3. My Account > Create a Team or 1-Man Roster> SC2: Wings of Liberty
4. You (and/or your team) are signed up automatically (at least for me; I was on this page when I created a One-man team.)

To set your B-net 2.0 ID:

5. My Account (again) > My Account (the drop list) > Unique Game IDs
6. Set your Battle net id & identifier

You guys should really talk to people who know how to run SC tournaments. Trying to set it up like a FPS tournament/season is the wrong way to go about things.

You guys should change:

1) the map pool; you only have 1v1 maps. If you paid attention to anything SC related you would know every other tournament and league uses 3-player and 4-player maps. Lost Temple is played in almost every tournament, while Incineration Zone is not very popular. Change the pool and get rid of this pick/ban method. Designate three maps for each round and rotate them around (e.g., DO, LT, BS 1st round; LT, SOW, DO second round).

2) tournament length; the size of this is very unnecessary. Higher level players participate in multiple tournaments at the same time and creating a dbl elim tournament that spans the course of two months is overkill. Make it single elimination and just run it for two weeks or so and people will actually be interested in it.

3) timing; as it is right now the tournament lasts until two weeks before the launch of this game. No one but Blizzard knows how they will approach the last month of beta time. Worst case scenario is a lot of downtime.

A lot of veteran RTS players are enthusiastic about larger organizations picking up SC2, but just because you are well known in FPS circles does not mean you will be accepted by the SC community. You will be put off if people believe you are only trying to cash in on the gigantic potential of SC2. Understand the community you are providing for and you will be rewarded.

"We’d like to let all of our StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test participants know that the first phase of the beta test will be coming to an end in all regions on Monday, May 31. The beta test will be unavailable for several weeks while we make some hardware and software configuration changes in preparation for the final phase of the beta test and the release of the game. We plan to bring the beta test back online for a couple of weeks prior to the game’s launch to complete our testing. We’ll have more details to share about when this final beta-testing phase will begin at a later date.

We’d like to thank all of our beta-test participants for your enthusiasm, dedication, and valuable feedback during the beta test, and we look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the StarCraft II beta test as the game’s July 27 launch approaches. "

This is why you do not schedule a 2 month long tournament during a beta.

CEVO|Rippey

We will make an announcement soon on changes to the tournament after its discussed.

CEVO|Rippey
Hey all, please see the new news post for updates on the tournament.

I think it's great that you guys are getting in on this action, but your map selection is terrible. You just chose all the two-player maps when most players far prefer the four player ones. Desert Oasis and Incineration Zone definitely need to be cut from the map pool. Looking forward to participating though anyway.

CEVO|Rippey
Weasel.snipes this match post is old the entire tournament structure and map pool has been changed:

Due to the announcement that the BETA for Starcraft 2 will end May 31st we have decided to make the following changes to the OCZ Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty BETA Tournament.

The tournament registration will now end Saturday May 22nd 2010.

The tournament format will now be Single Elimination for up to 128 players.

The players participating will be broken up into 8 brackets of 16 players in which matches will be played best of 1 with assigned maps in each round. Only the top one player in each of the 8 16 player qualification brackets will go to the: 8 person, best of 3, single elimination playoffs.

Matches will be played every day for 7 days to complete all 7 rounds.

The first match will be played Monday May 24th 2010 and will be played each night until Sunday May 30th 2010.

Due to this Rush schedule we will be using default times of 9:30 pm CST (10:30 EST, 8:30MST, 7:30 PST) if players cannot agree otherwise.

Also the rules have been updated to the following map pool:

Blistering Sands. Steppes of War, Metapolis, Scrap Station , Lost Temple

Please also note that this tournament is supposed to be for residents in the USA/ Canada and is to be played on the North American Battle.net servers for Starcraft 2. Players from other countries are welcome, but need to play on the North American servers for the game.

- Round 2 - Tue 5/25 - Lost Temple
- Round 3 – Wed 5/26 - Scrap Station
- Round 4 – Thu 5/27 - Metapolis

Hashbean.Roor Evo Points: 1
do we leave our names as they were or do we need to update names? Now that patch 13 has removed the 2nd part of our names, it seems like names need to updated. For instance, I am now Hashbean instead of Hasbean.roor. Also, I can't think of anyway we'll be able to locate our matches in-game without knowing e-mail or Facebook info

cody Evo Points: 1
With the new patch there's no longer the name identifier so the only way to add someone is via their email address.

VaS Evo Points: 2
you do realize the beta is closing May 30th...

CEVO|Rippey
VaS the schedule was updated a while ago to make the tournament conclude by the end of beta. Assuming that blizzard doesn't have any more severe outages between now and then we should be able to get this done.
